Abdominoplasty Procedure – Weight Loss Mini Tummy Tuck

A friend of ours wants to have an abdominoplasty procedure done. When she first told us about this, all we could do was look at each other. Afterwards, when we were by ourselves and were able to discuss it more, I made the comment that I thought she was nuts to want to have anything done.

Why? Because she weighs about 100 lbs soaking wet and works out like a fiend every single day. How could she possibly need to have a tummy tuck? Well, I was wrong to jump to any conclusion like that. She explained at a later date that even though she works out like a fiend, she is still getting older and the skin around her middle is starting to get saggy. It is because she works out so diligently that she wants to continue to look her best.

Can’t blame a woman for that now can you?

The procedure she will have is called a mini-tuck where an incision is made, minimal liposuction performed if any is needed, and the skin tightened, then stitched closed. The belly button does not require relocation with a mini-tuck. A drain tube is inserted into the incision to drain excess fluid. The lower abdomen is then wrapped with a compression dressing. Pain control using a prescribed narcotic or, if the pain is minimal, then over the counter pain relievers may be used. Recovery time is 2-3 weeks with a mini-tuck.

So, I learned my lesson. I learned that even someone who is in great shape and has incredible muscle tone can still be in need of firmer skin in certain areas of her body.

I have another friend who had an abdominoplasty procedure after having two pregnancies which resulted in two very big babies, 10 lbs and 11 lbs, respectively. She lost all the baby weight but since both the babies had to be taken Cesarean and were so big to begin with she ended up with a lot of excess skin in that area and she was told the muscles of her abdomen would never recover.

Obviously, the procedure she had done was a full tummy tuck which involved “baseball stitching” the damaged muscles, removing any fat remaining with liposuction, stretching the skin taut, trimming off the excess, relocating the belly button and closing the incision. Drain tubes were inserted to help keep fluid from accumulating and aid recovery. The area is then wrapped tightly with a compression dressing to help support the muscles. A narcotic analgesic will be prescribed to control the pain and discomfort associated with the procedure. Recovery time is approximately six weeks with a full tummy tuck.

So, if you are looking for a toned, flat belly, check out board-certified plastic surgeons in your area and call for a consult. Ask what your options are and if they think you are a good candidate for surgery. You may find that you are making one of the smartest decisions you have ever made in your life. Just think, no more battle of the bulge!

Although not recommended as a substitute for a weight loss or diet regimen, an abdominoplasty procedure can help correct the problem areas left behind when all is said and done.

Calories and Weight Loss – Burn 500 Calories a Day to Lose a Pound a Week

Do you know how to balance your calories? Weight loss begins with knowing what foods to eat and in what amounts. This article will look at calories & weight loss.

The most important thing you need to know about calories & weight loss is that you need to burn 3500 more calories than you take in to lose 1 pound. You can do this by exercising, dieting, or a combination of both.

The easiest way to break this down is to think of it on a daily basis. You need to burn 500 more calories than you eat each day.

An inactive or lightly active man will burn weighing 150 lbs, burns roughly 2000 calories each day. If he weighed 200 lbs, he’d burn around 2300 calories each day. On the other hand, a 150 lbs. woman will burn about 1700 calories a day.

Why do men and women of the same weight burn different calories? Most of it has to do with the fact that men have more muscle mass which allows them to burn more calories at rest. This should also encourage you to put on muscle, whether you are a man or a woman.

So, going back to calories & weight loss, if you are a 150 pound woman and you don’t want to do any exercise, you need to eat no more than 1200 calories a day.

However, if you are willing to put in some work, you can eat a little bit more. For instance, even housework can increase your eating ability. Heavy cleaning burns 432 calories an hour. Do that for 70 minutes a day and you’ll have your 500 calories. Mowing the lawn for an hour (with a push mower) burns 324 calories an hour. But there are fun ways to burn calories too. An hour of singles tennis burns 549 calories an hour. And, an hour of skiing burns a whopping 740 calories.

If you are serious about controlling calories, weight loss will follow. One way to do this is to control your portion sizes. Meals, both at home and at restaurants have been growing in size for decades. For instance, in the 1930s, the average dinner plate size had an 8 or 9 inch diameter. Now, the average diameter is 10 to 12 inches. Switch to salad plates for dinner and watch the pounds disappear.

It’s no secret that restaurant portions have grown. For instance at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, a seemingly good for you Teriyaki Salmon dinner has a whopping 1240 calories. If you are eating out, either split the meal with someone else or ask for a take home box at the start of the meal. Then, place half of the food in the take home box before you start eating. That way you can still “clean your plate” without taking on the additional calories.

There calories weight loss formula is calories in-calories out. Make sure that there is a differential of 500 if you want to lose one pound.

Abdominal Liposuction Getting Rid Of The Stubbon Fat

You are working out and doing everything right. The goal weight is in sight and your motivation is in high gear. You can see it and you want it bad. Just one thing though, your belly. Your belly is the only thing that isn’t cooperating and you are thinking that when you are at your goal weight you might consider abdominal liposuction.

Abdominal liposuction will give you the flat belly you have always wanted by taking out the rest of the fat that is left behind that just won’t go away no matter what you do and stretching the skin. Seriously, if you have worked so hard to get where you are now then why not take this last step to give you the look you really want. Think about it, you could get rid of the most stubborn fat and have the doctor help you show off the hard body you have worked so hard to get back.

So now that you have made the decision to get this procedure done the only thing left to do is find the right doctor to do the job. Where do you find the best doctor? Ask around. You no doubt know someone who has had some work done and they can get you started in the right direction. Once you have a short list of two or three then you need to do some homework and check their references, ask to see before and after pictures of procedures they have done and most of all meet them and talk with them to see if you like and can trust them with your body.

If you find one that you can like and trust at the same time then you are off to a good start. Make sure you have them take you through the procedure so you understand what you are in for. Make sure you understand everything they are saying and if you do not then ask questions. Do not leave anything to chance.

Your skin can stay elastic for only so long and then it remains a little stretched out of shape. There is obviously more skin than you need so the excess is cut off and your belly button will have to be moved then the surgeon sutures the incision closed. You will not be able to even stand up straight when you get home so be prepared. You should be given a prescription for pain control so be sure to take it when you need it. He or she may even prescribe an antibiotic to help prevent infection.

If your skin is not so saggy then you may only need the liposuction. Done with a laser, the laser also tightens the skin as they go so you will not need a tummy tuck at all. The option is there, though, if you need it. If you do not need a tummy tuck with your abdominal liposuction then you may not need a stronger pain reliever than acetaminophen but it is best to ask for something a little stronger just in case.

Best Exercise Equipment- You Do Have Options

Choosing the best exercise equipment for home use can be as simple, or complex, as you want it to be. It can be fairly inexpensive or cost thousands of dollars. The important thing to remember is to not get overwhelmed and that you do have many options.

Before you decide what equipment you need you will need to decide what type of workout you will do. The equipment you will need for weight training will be different than the equipment you need for yoga. So that is step one: decide what type of workout you are going to do.

If you’re not sure about a workout just keep in mind that a combination of some sort of cardio exercises such as, walking, jogging, biking, rowing, etc, and some light weight training will provide you with the best overall body workout. It will keep your heart healthy as well as keeping your muscles healthy and toned.

Here is some equipment that you can use for your cardiovascular workout:

1. Treadmill. This will allow you to walk, or jog, or anything in between.

2. Rowing machine. This will provide more of a total body workout with some elements of resistance training along with the cardio benefits.

3. An exercise DVD. There are hundreds of titles on the market for you to choose from. These DVD’s can help you get a tough cardio workout and it won’t cost you much.

In order to get the benefits of strength training here are some pieces of equipment you should consider:

1. Some free weights. You will probably only need one set to start with. As you advance you might need a few sets since some areas of your body will get stronger than others and will need a little more weight to be challenged.

2. Resistance bands. These will provide the same benefits as weights but they can also provide a smoother motion.

I hope this brief list of the best exercise equipment will help you choose what is best for you and your workout goals.

Calorie Intake to Lose Weight Keep Your Metabolism Burning Hot

When it comes time to seriously commit to losing weight the vast majority of the population will immediately think in terms of cutting calories. We all know that in order to lose weight we will need to burn more calories than we take in. I guess many people start with calorie intake to lose weight because with all the diet plans and supplements available it just make this method, as opposed to exercise, seem easier.

The truth is though that calorie cutting alone probably won’t be enough to lose all the weight you want to lose. And here’s why. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. That means in order to lose just one pound of fat we will need to decrease our caloric intake by 3500 calories. Most people should be taking in between 1,500 and 2,500 calories daily. That means you would need to go without food for days just to lose one pound of fat! Impossible, and unhealthy.

If you keep in mind that your body works kind of like a furnace, you will understand why you need to continuously supply it with fuel. Even if you could cut way back on the calories you take in daily, it still wouldn’t work. Your body was designed to keep itself alive, at all costs. It’s hardwired to protect itself from starvation. If you cut way back on the calories you take in, your body will think it’s starving and will shut down as much as it can to preserve resources. That means your metabolism will slow way, way down and you won’t lose any weight.

The one thing you want to do when trying to lose weight is to keep your metabolism burning nice and hot so you can burn as many calories as possible. In order to keep your metabolism burning hot you will need to constantly provide it with a sufficient amount of fuel.

Keeping your metabolism burning hot is another reason why restricting your caloric intake alone is not the optimum way to lose weight. If you combine some form of exercise, particularly weight training, you will really ramp up your metabolism. Why? Simple, muscle burns hotter than fat. For every bit of muscle you add to your body you are permanently ramping up your metabolism.

One word of caution for all of you women out there: you do not have to worry about ‘bulking up’ if you lift weights. You would only be able to get bulky, if you wanted to, by basically becoming a full time weight lifter. The women you see who are all bulked up work out for hours every single day, they eat perfectly, and sometimes they are even taking supplements.

You can lift weights a few times a week and you won’t bulk up. What you will do is tone up which will make you look ‘tighter’ which means you will look slimmer no matter what your actual weight is. If you and your best friend both weigh 120 lbs but you are toned and she isn’t you will look a lot slimmer. So start lifting those weights.

If you took two people of the exact same weight, age, and gender, the only difference is that one had more muscle mass than the other, and compared their metabolic rate you would see that the one with the higher muscle mass would have a much higher metabolism all the time, even while they were sleeping or watching t.v.

When you keep these facts in mind you will see that calorie intake to lose weight is a very important element, but it is only part of the equation. To truly optimize your weight loss efforts combine diet with some form of exercise program. Not only will you more quickly achieve your weight loss goals, you will also have a healthier, better looking body.

How To Speed Up Your Abdominal Fat Loss

It seems that everybody focuses on abdominal fat loss. The size of a person’s stomach seems to represent their overall health. Even people who are fairly thin everywhere else who might have a pot belly look unhealthy to us. And the person with the pot belly no doubt feels unhealthy because of it.

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to belly fat loss. The good news is it’s achievable. No matter how big your belly is and how long you’ve been overweight, you can lose that belly fat and get into much better shape.

The bad news is that there’s really no secret or trick to doing it. You’ve been hearing the right way of losing abdominal fat for years. Maybe you’ve tried different things, like different diets and exercise plans, and the results weren’t fast enough for you or you just didn’t stick with the plan.

The bad news is you were probably on the right track and gave up. Any healthy eating plan combined with an exercise program can help you lose that abdominal fat. It might not be exciting or pretty, but it’s there for you to try. The hardest part is finding a plan that works for you as an individual.

The diet that works for your neighbor and the people you work with might not work for you. Everybody’s different. If one plan worked for everyone there wouldn’t so many different diets that so many different people can lose weight with. There’d be one plan for everybody and it would work without fail as long as you stick to it.

But instead there are low-carb and low-fat and low-calorie, and diets that focus on vegetables. There are hundreds of different particular diets out there. This time, don’t go on a diet. Decide to simply eat healthier and take in fewer calories than you have been. This will step up your fat loss and soon you’ll have far less abdominal fat.

This alone can help you lose abdominal fat just as it can help you lose fat everywhere. If you take in fewer calories than you burn, you lose fat, period. But if you’re simply shaped differently and you have a larger belly, it might appear this is the last place you lose that fat.

Do exercises that target that area to slim it down and make it look like you’ve had a great amount of abdominal fat losses. Strength training exercises that focus on the thigh muscles will help you burn fat faster everywhere. That’s because these are your largest muscle groups and making them work more efficiently increases your metabolism.

Also focus on the abdominal area with some crunches, and maybe exercises like yoga and Pilates. These types of exercises will tighten those muscles and make your entire belly area smaller. Start small so you don’t hurt yourself, and then build up.

Doing all these things can help you achieve your abdominal fat loss goals faster than ever before, and soon you’ll have a nice tight stomach with all the fat melting away.

Abdominal Fat Diabetes Connection Is It A Lie

Is there really an abdominal fat diabetes connection? Unfortunately, there is. It’s a statistic that people who carry more fat around their midsection and other parts of the body tend toward something called metabolic syndrome. Heart disease, high cholesterol and blood pressure, and diabetes all seem to plague people with more belly fat.

Body types are given fruit names. Pear-shaped people suffer from these problems far less than people shaped like apples with round middles and lots of weight above the waist. So if you have a lot of abdominal fat, are you headed for diabetes on a one-way train that you can’t stop?

Definitely not. It’s not really known whether people who carry more abdominal fat are more prone to diabetes because they are simply born in such a way that they tend toward that belly fat. Or because they’re born with a tendency toward diabetes and that causes the fat to settle around the middle.

In other words, when it comes to metabolic syndrome and abdominal fat, doctors and researchers don’t know if the chicken or the egg came first. Does the fat cause diabetes, or do you have the fat because you’re more prone to diabetes? But one thing is certain. Losing abdominal fat lowers your chances of diabetes.

In fact, statistics show that type II diabetes, also called adult onset diabetes, is preventable in almost all cases. Type I diabetes typically happens in childhood and is called juvenile diabetes. This strikes young people when their pancreas simply stops producing enough insulin or it stops producing any insulin at all.

Type I diabetes has nothing to do with being overweight or having abdominal fat. Type II diabetes, by comparison, is a disease this believed to be mostly caused by lifestyle. Poor eating habits and no exercise or very little exercise are believed to mostly be the cause of this disease.

Even if everyone in your family has diabetes, you can take steps to try to prevent it in yourself. If you have a lot of abdominal fat, diabetes is a definite danger for you. Losing the fat might not directly affect your chances of diabetes. If someone could peel the fat off your stomach without you changing your lifestyle, you might still be headed for diabetes.

But the action you take to lose that abdominal fat affects your health so positively that you lower your risk of diabetes dramatically. Even losing 10 pounds drops your risk of so many different things like diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and even knee problems.

So it’s not the abdominal fat loss that directly makes a difference. It’s the healthy choices you make that cause yourself to lose fat that can help save you from diabetes.

The steps are simple. Eat complex carbohydrates like oatmeal and whole grains. Make vegetables, fruit, whole grains and very lean proteins the core of your diet. And get plenty of exercise. The abdominal fat diabetes connection means these healthy choices can help you avoid this chronic and potentially debilitating disease.
