what are the causes of cholesterol?

Hello firiends,

As my little knowledge that every diseass must have a cause or a reason or a certain factor, as I hear that cholesterol is a high level of fat in the blood, and this cause blood pressure and could effect to make more health problems,
my question: is the cholesterol a self-acquired disease or a genetic disease, in case of the father or the mother has it, there is a chance to happend to the child? or any other causes? or eating habits that effect it? and how to keep the cholesterol under control?
any additional information will be high appreciated,
regards

High Cholesterol question…?

We found out about a month ago that my dad had high cholesterol. He’s never been one to take care of his eating habits, so I wasn’t really surprised to hear it. The doctor put him on meds right away which kind of made me a little upset ’cause he never exhausted the option of a good diet. I went with my dad today for a follow-up and I discussed diet with the doctor and he had this to say:
1. diet has VERY LITTLE to do with cholesterol and getting rid of it, it’s ALL ABOUT GENETICS –does that make any sense??? I thought it was an absolutely rediculous comment
2. I then asked him about carbohydrates."what about carbs? what should his daily intake be of it?" his answer was "i’m not worryng about carbs for him because he’s not diabetic" i replied "so he can eat carbs everyday without it having any type of effect on him?" he replied "nope, nothing" i replied "but my father doesn’t exercise" he replied "oh right…he needs to exercise then" and that was that!
Am i missing something here??

Metabolism of Dietary Cholesterol?

If you eat say meat, you are consuming cholesterol. But what happens to it during digestion? What is it metabolized into? I know that cholesterol is useful for lipid (fat ) digestion. So what happens in the case of "0 cholesterol" food. Does the body synthesize its own cholesterol? If so, what is it synthesized from? How does eating "0 cholesterol" food corelate to eating healthy?

Cholesterol?

Does fish oil lower cholesterol? Also, what are the pro’s and con’s of taking fish oil? Could it also help you lose weight (with eating right and exercise)? What are some other natural ways I could lower my cholesterol?

Thank you in advance!
