Can't sleep? Natural Health Remedy?

I have always been a light sleeper like my father. I can spend hours in bed just day dreaming and thinking of stuff, stressing, processing information, planning my weekly sched etc.

Sometimes my boyfriend just rolls around in bed fast sleep and I will just lay there restless.

It messes my sleep pattern up. I do get to sleep eventually but I am tired in the morning. Its hard for me to wake up.

I find a glass of wine at dinner or taking two advil once in a while before bed helps but I don’t want to use those either.

I don’t have time or patience to make any tea or take pills before bed. I don’t even want to see my doctor to just put me on prescription meds.

What can I do? The most natural way of getting some sleep and relaxing.

Well, you are exactly right that any OTC pills (sleeping pills or pain relievers alike) can cause a problem over time (liver damage, addiction, etc), so you want to be careful about those.

I’ve had a similar problem with getting to sleep in the past, but I’m able to sleep much easier now that I follow a few "rules" in my life. Namely, make sure you avoid sugar, caffeine, and exercise for at least 2-3 hours before you want to head to bed to eliminate other common possibilities of sleeping problems.
If you’d like, there are some natural sleep aids that don’t have a risk of addiction like Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile, Hops, L-Tryptophan, L-Theanine, Passionflower, and Scullcap (an herb). Those are each available in pills that take all of 10 seconds to take (so there’s no annoying prep time) and you can try any one of those to help you sleep naturally. Even a glass of warm milk can help people sleep quite well… that’s got naturally occurring Tryptophan in it, too.

If none of that helps, it’s possible you may need to see a Sleep Specialist to see why you aren’t sleeping right, but most people don’t get to that point after trying some of these options. Good luck and I hope I helped!

One of the best ways is probably trying to get some exercise in the day, at least half an hour of it. One thing that I do personally is having something like a fan on for background noise, that way I can just zone out on the noise, and that way I don’t keep myself up with all my thoughts.

Other standard things such as a glass of warm milk may help to relax you before you go to bed.

That’s all I can think of at the moment.
    – Good luck.

  • I think in your case the best solution would be to use lavender essential oil Be sure it is real essential oil and not a synthetic. Here is one I use.

Just sprinkle it on the pillow or sheets or pjs or a tissue and inhale deeply. Can also use a heat diffuser or vaporizer or make a lavender herb pillow and sprinkle it on there to refresh the scent.

It is particularly good for sleeping when one cannot shut off one’s thoughts or is worrying about something going over and over about it in one’s head.

I used to go to protests rallies involving long 13 hour or so bus rides with other activists and could never sleep one drop making it difficult but one time I thought to bring the lavender essential oil and breath it when I was ready to sleep or woke up to go to the bathroom. I just put it on my pillow near my nose. It caused me to fall asleep relatively quickly despite uncomfortable setting and when I woke up tp go to the bathroom, I saw all around me when also sleeping as the smell spread through that section of the bus.

It can also be used during stress to calm down.

Other sleep aids are 3-5 mg of melatonin taken 1/2 hour before you want to sleep. Increase dose by increments if it does not work as it is safe in doses hundreds of times that.

Also hops tincture or pillow, valarian root tincture, or chamomile tincture or tea, but seeing how you don’t want pills or teas this is very simple..just sprinkle and breath deeply of the lavender essential oil. also cost effective as a bottle lasts a long time.
