problems with thyroid?

can anyone tell me the signs of having a thyroid problem? I think I may have some signs but am not sure. I gain and loose weight (about 10 lbs) off and on without changing anything. I sometimes get real depressed for no reason and my neck seems swollen.(my choker necklace is much tighter than normal) I dont like to go to the doctor for no reason so can anyone help?
