Does anyone have natural remedy reccomendations for PCOS?

PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) I am looking for mainly weight gain, fatigue, and abnormal menstruation homeopathic remedies.

    YES!!!!!!!! I was diangosed over a year ago and struggled with the same things. In the most basic terms…PCOS is a hormone imbalance and several docs told me until you get your hormones balanced, you won’t be able to lose weight. PCOS helped me gain 85 pounds in just over 2 years…and I have NEVER had a weight problem. I see a naturopathic doctor (used to practice mainstream (MD) medicine be he saw patients weren’t being helped with drugs…) so they use all natural stuff. I started seeing him in March 07 and am so pleased. ( Consider looking for an ND in your area…otherwise MDs will just want you on drugs that have side effects and don’t help.

    As far as weight gain…I am FINALLY losing!!! YIPPEEE!! I lost 10 pounds in the first 30 days. I have insulin resistance and if it’s not controlled now, it WILL turn in to diabetes. I cut out ALL sugar and yeast. When I say ALL, I mean ALL. Sugar and all the other things it’s called in food labels…nothing white really….no flour (I use ground up slow cook oatmeal), no sugar, no refined sugar, no rice, no potatoes, no bread, no pasta…etc. Sugar is in bread, it’s in condiments…etc. Oh, no dairy. I FEEL fantastic too! I don’t hurt anymore, I focus sooo much better at work, I am not tired all the time. Here’ s complete list/guidelines:

    I am on several natural bio identical hormones too. You need a ND for those.

    I am taking many supplements to build my immune system back and help my blood sugar levels and to help me lose weight. But two things that I KNOW have helped…Tropical Traditions (look for it on the internet/quality health food stores) Virgin Coconut oil. My doc gave it to me! It’s sooo healthy plus it’s antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and people take a tablespoon before each meal, in smoothies as a salad dressing and it curbs your cravings for sweets, makes you feel full faster. Here’s a site with good info and look at the menu to the left…weight loss, fatigue… If you aren’t TOO hormonally imblanced this may get you back in line.

    Also…start learning about what you’re eating. You’d never know that margarine and canola oil mess with a females hormones! That’s not good for us! I cook with olive or coconut oil now…Here’s a site I found recently and it was a REAL eye opener. It’s got new articles everyday… and what’s so cool about this guy, he’s on our side. He gets NO $$ whatsoever for what he writes. It’s honest, it’s truthful and realistic. He’s got free ebooks on that site too. If you want to know how he got there…learn about HIS health problems and how he fixed them all…got off all the meds and is sooo healthy now. His name is Mike Adams.

    The other thing I want to show you is Iodine. This is one of the things my doc has me on and I started to read about it and found this group. I have started increasing my iodine (Iodoral in pill form, and lugol’s in liquid form) and have noticed an increase in weight loss because of it. I also have way more energy the days I remember to take my Lugol’s in fruit juice. At the top of the page you can do a search about PCOS and you will find posts related to a FANTASIC site…all research etc. about how Iodine dissolves breast cancer and ovarian cysts. I have started to buy my Iodine from this site because it’s half the price from what my doc sells it for and it’s helping a charity. I have rampant breast cancer in my family so I will be on it forever to prevent it! This site will show you the other supps you need to take with it…there are only 3 or so.

    And have you been to That’s the place I started….THOUSANDS of women with PCOS talking about their meds, their natural remedies, their symptoms…it’s just FASCINATING. Made me realize that even though my case is severe…it can always be worse.

  • Although we all prefer natual remedies, you will need to work closely with your doctor.

    Are you aware that many PSOC symptoms are related to insulin resistance? Check out this website listed below.

    Insulin resistance usually preceeds diabetes, but not all people who are insulin resistant develop diabetes.

    Pills used to treat insulin resistance (by perscription) can alleviate weight gain and fatigue. Metformin is commonly perscribed, and it works wonders for those who need it.

    Do take a multi vitamin, and eat soy products such as tofu and try a soy milk. I like SILK Vanilla soy milk best.

    I am looking into this myself. I have been drinking spearmint tea twice daily in hopes of it lowering free testosterone. I have also been exercising (cardio) 30-60 min a day and eating as many colorful fruits and veggies as I can. They say lowering your weight by 16% can do wonders- so that is the goal I am trying to go after.

    Um, this one is unique. With the pain I would suggest using all natural raspberry tea, this will help maintain the reproductive system normal or in your case help restore it to "normal". Fatigue: I would suggest using a cast Iron pan to cook your food on to help integrate Iron into your diet to help with that fatigue.

  • If we offered you a miracle remedy that cures "Uterus Inflammation/PCOS" would you buy it? Certainly you would. You won’t find it in a Pharmacy but at the Grocery Store.

    Try the Natural Cures for Uterus Inflammation/PCOS.

    The uterus, often called the womb, is the most delicate organ of woman. It is liable to disorders of various kinds. Inflammation of this organ is common occurrence in women. It may be acute or chronic.

    The uterus is a hollow, pear-shaped muscular organ, situated in a bonny frame called the pelvis. It is seven centimeter long, 5 cm. in breadth and about 2.5 cm. thick. Its capacity is roughly 3 cubic centimeters. The lower narrow end of the uterus which opens into the vagina is called the cervix. The upper broad part is called the body of the uterus or the corpus.

    The inflammation which may affect the lining membrane of the uterus is called endometritis. When it affects the muscular coat and substance of the uterus, it is termed metritis. Endometritis may be confined to the lining membrane of the cervix or neck of the uterus or it may attack the lining membrane of the entire organ. Commonly it is called catarrh of uterus.

    Symptoms: The symptoms of acute endometriosis are slight fever, headache, general debility, loss of appetite, pain in the back and lower part of the abdomen, and pelvis, and itching tendency in the vagina. IN chronic endometriosis, symptoms are the same, but not so severe as in the acute form. The only troublesome symptom is the discharge which may be either clear or opaque and yellow. This disease may produce sterility.

    Chill, fever, rapid pulse and breathing, nausea, local pain and discharge are the symptoms of acute metritis. This is a very rare case, but it may occur after confinement on account of infection. Chronic metritis may occur for many reasons and is probably the most common diseases among women. The symptoms are disorders of menstruation, more or less profuse leucorrhoea, constipation, lack of vitality, weakness in the back and the limbs, pain in the lower portion of the back, and a tendency to abortion.

    Causes: Inflammation of the uterus may be caused by sudden chill, or by exposure to cold during menstruation. The disease sometimes occurs because of the medicines applied for the purpose of stimulating the menstrual flow. Other causes are the use of irritants to produce abortion, the use of strong purgatives, the insertion of instruments and preventives, and excessive sexual indulgence. Sometimes bicycle riding, hose back riding, and dancing may also cause inflammation of the uterus among weak and underweight women. The displacement of the uterus in any form may also lead to this condition.

    Treatment: If the inflammation is caused by a chill or exposure to cold during menstruation, the patient should start the treatment with a hot leg bath. This may be replaced by hot hipbath after two or three days. In case of pain, hot and cold hipbaths will be beneficial. The water should be changed from hot to cold, every two minutes and this should be repeated thrice.

    As this disease produces the tendency towards constipation, the patient should take an enema once daily with warm water as can be comfortably borne by the patient. It is also advisable to apply alternate compress on the abdomen just before employing enema.

    In the chronic form the treatment should aim at increasing the general vitality. To begin with, the patient should resort to fasting on orange juice and water for two or three days. The procedure is to take every two hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. the juice of an orange diluted with warm water on 50:50 basis. If the orange juice does not agree, juices of vegetable such as carrots and cucumber may be taken. A warm water enema may be taken each day while fasting to cleanse the bowels.

    After the short juice fast, the patient may adopt an all-fruit diet for about two days, taking three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits such as apples, pears, grapes, grapefruit, orange, pineapple, peaches, and melon.

    After the juice fast the patient should follow a well- balanced diet of seeds, nuts, and grains, vegetables, and fruits. This diet should be supplemented with milk, yogurt, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and honey. A further short juice fast or periods on the all-fruit diet may be necessary at intervals of a month or two, according to the needs of the case. If constipation is habitual, all steps should be taken for its eradication.

    The foods, which should be avoided, are:
    White flour products, sugar, confectionery, rich cakes, pastries, sweets, refined cereals, flesh foods, rich, heavy and greasy foods, tinned or preserved foods, pickles, condiments, and sauces.

    The patient should also undertake moderate exercise and walking in fresh air as it will help increase general health and vitality. Yogic asanas such as sarvangasana, bhujangasana, uttanasana, and shavasana are also beneficial in the treatment of inflammation of the uterus.

    No real cure is possible unless the system as a whole is treated. The blood has to be purified, the nerves strengthened and the waste deposits accumulated in the system eliminated before the trouble can be completely overcome.
