Acne vulgaris

Acne vulgaris; Cystic acne; Pimples; Zits Acne is a skin condition that causes pimples or “zits.” This includes whiteheads, blackheads, and red, inflammed patches of skin (such as cysts). Causes, incidence, and risk factors Acne occurs when tiny holes on the surface of the skin become clogged. These holes are called pores. Each pore opens to a follicle. A follicle contains a hair and an oil gland. The oil released by the gland helps remove old skin cells and keeps your skin soft. When glands produce too much oil, the pores can become blocked. Dirt, bacteria, and cells build up. The blockage is called a plug or comedone. If the top of the plug is white, it is called a whitehead. If the top of the plug is dark, it is called a blackhead. If the plug breaks open, swelling and red bumps occur. Acne that is deep in your skin can cause hard, painful cysts. This is called cystic acne. Acne is most common in teenagers, but anyone can get acne, even babies. Three out of four teenagers have some acne. Hormonal changes may cause the skin to be more oily. Acne tends to run in families. It may be triggered by: Hormonal changes related to puberty, menstrual periods, pregnancy, birth control pills, or stress Greasy or oily cosmetic and hair products Certain drugs (such as steroids, testosterone, estrogen, and phenytoin) High levels of humidity and sweating Research does not show that chocolate, nuts, and greasy foods cause acne. However, diets high in refined sugars may be related to

Small Steps with Disciplines Lead To Major Achievements

Why is it that some students and adults for that matter seem to commit to what they want to achieve and others just drift and manage to do enough to keep in the boundaries of mediocrity

I think myself that it is basically down to the depth of their desire and their belief in themselves that propels the committed ones  forward to take action and move  towards their desired goals. If they do not have that belief or desire of where they want to be and what they want to do in their future careers then they drift into the mediocrity of daily life.

One method  I believe that can move us forward to where we want to be is when we set simple disciplines in the form of daily tasks. If we can find our inspiration that will ignite the desire to enable us to set up and perform small daily actions that will in turn lead us to create positive results in our lives that in effect make us unstoppable.

Lets think of this in another way ..

what is the price of creating these daily tasks compared to the price of not doing these daily tasks due to our lack of commitment?

The price is living with regret, failure,  ill heath, and poverty. All because we have neglected to carry out this daily discipline. I  have tried really hard to instill this daily discipline in my daughters by letting them see where this lack of commitment  in young people has resulted in living their lives on welfare with a few children and little money to get by.

I love the saying …” if you continue to keep doing the same things you will continue to get the same result”

Everyone has the ability to change and change does not have to be insurmountable. All it takes is small changes daily in the way you do things and gradually you will start to see that small changes bring about major results.

So how do we start to put in action our daily disciplines.

We first of all need a clear idea of what we want for the future. Do you know what you want for your future?….You need a clear vision of what you want..I  know what I want.. It does not matter what age you are or where you are right now. I have a plan to achieve in 2 years time, I am 57 years old and I have daily tasks I do to move me towards that plan. One of those daily tasks is writing this article.

Know what you want then create a plan to guide you to invite this success into your experiences.

Set down your daily tasks. Use your willpower to perform these daily tasks and in a matter of weeks these daily tasks will become habits. These small changes will not require you to completely change everything you do they will just mean that you start practicing your new daily success tasks.

Our desire will always tell us what we want but desire will only become reality when we put the wheels in motion to turn our desire into reality .

Our daily tasks are those wheels.

Remember the saying “if you want something done give it to a busy person” that is because the person is a “Doer” they just get on with things and get the work done.

It is important for you to see a vivid picture in your mind of the person you want to become in the future. Keep your faith strong that you will achieve your dreams. Always try to do a little better today than what you did yesterday.

Do this and you will live the life you planned.

Sometimes teachers need to have fun!

For the most part of my day at college I am spend in endless discussions with teenagers on issues that range from  “what is bothering them right now” to  the serious conversation like we had today.  We watched a program about people who were in a vegetative state and have now been shown to have brain reactions to various questions.  Some major new research that will have a profound effect on  reactions to people who are in a long term coma .

So the range of what we talk about is far reaching and every now and then ……well I just decide to stop being the teacher and have some fun .

Just today one of the students announced it was her birthday and she had ordered a cake to come to the classroom ..Some innate reaction when off in my brain at the mention of chocolate cake and so on the music went and the party began.

Down went the pens and paper and before we could get through the second mouthful of our cake on when the latest top of the charts ….Gangham style .

We all did our Gangham style version around the room [me included} and  it was only natural of course with this generation of technological beings  that a few videos were made  of their teacher doing Gangham style around the classroom  and quickly uploaded onto facebook. As a student in the class is friendly with my daughter this video was quickly flagged in her direction.

Now I have a tendency to dance around the kitchen  in the house and have been asked on various occasion by my daughters if I ever danced in front of my students .

“of course not!”  I would never embarass you like that ?

So it was not long before my phone started

“have you seen yourself”?

Of course I have …but then who cares?

An old friend of mine once told me years ago when I was in my 40,s and him in his 50,s  that there is one really good thing about  moving into the 50 + age group.

It’s the fact that you just could not care less what people thought of anything you did and in fact it just did not upset you anymore if you told people straight just like it is ….if you know what I mean

You know what ?

He is right!!!

Child weight Chart

“What’s the right weight for my child?” is one of the most common questions parents have.

Seems like a simple one, but i can assure you it is not always easy to answer..

I have lost count over the years of how many times teenagers have asked me that question and it is just not a simple answer.

People have different body types, so no single number is the right weight for everyone.

Among kids the same height and age, some are more muscular or more developed than others. That’s because not all kids have the same body type or develop at the same time. In effect kids are more difficult to predict than adults.

Growth and Puberty

Not everyone grows and develops on the same schedule. During puberty, the body begins making hormones that spark physical changes like breast development in girls and testicular enlargement in boys and spurts in height and weight gain in both boys and girls. Once these changes start, they continue for several years. The average person can expect to grow as much as 10 inches (25 centimeters) during puberty before reaching full adult height.

Most kids gain weight more rapidly during this time as the amounts of muscle, fat, and bone in their bodies change. All that new weight gain can be perfectly fine — as long as body fat, muscle, and bone are in the right proportion.Chocolate Against Child Obesity

Because some kids start developing as early as age 8 and some not until age 14, it can be normal for two kids who are the same gender, height, and age to have very different weights.

It can feel quite strange for kids to adjust to suddenly feeling heavier or taller. So it’s perfectly normal for a child to feel self-conscious about weight during adolescence — a lot of kids do.
