Can I make doughnuts at home with Bicarbonate of Soda?

On the tub of bicarbonate of soda, it says it can be used with doughnuts, but I can’t find any recipes online that use it! I have the majority of ingredients, but I don’t have baking soda or baking powder. Thank you!

There is always confusion between baking powder, baking soda, and bicarbonate of soda.. Baking soda is what Americans call baking powder. Baking powder is bicarbonate of soda plus an acid. You could use baking powder or bicarbonate of soda plus a little lemon juice (the acid) for your recipe.

Baking powder and baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) are two different leavening agents. Baking soda is usually used with baking powder to even out acidic baking ingredients for a greater rise. Usually if you use buttermilk. You need something to get the chemical reaction between ingredients to make it rise. If not, you have a hockey puck donut.
