Why Women get fat over 40 [and what to do about it]

Life can be REALLY unfair … especially if you are a woman over 40 who wants to get rid of unwanted fat. Believe me I know!

Not only does it start to pile up in all of the wrong places — your belly, your hips, thighs and butt — but it becomes stuck, and is almost impossible to get rid of.

No matter how little we eat or how much we exercise none of it seems to make an OUNCE of difference.

Finally, thanks to recent discoveries, there is at last something you can do and there is hope!

But before you get excited, you need to understand what’s REALLY going on…

================================
This is the #1 Cause of Frustrating Female Fat Over Forty…
================================

When it comes to frustrating fat gain with females over 40 we need to talk about Estrogen Dominance.

eh ..whats that you say?

The biology lesson begins……

Estrogen — along with its counter-balancing hormone Progesterone — are the reproductive hormones that control menstruation and allow women to be fertile and produce children.

Normally these two hormones are balanced by your brain’s hormone control central in the brain — the hypothalamus.

But the hypothalamus often gets goes off track… estrogen goes UP, your progesterone goes DOWN, and you then become estrogen dominant.

When you are estrogen dominant, signals are sent to your body to deposit fat SPECIFICALLY on your thighs, your hips hips and butt, it also orders your existing fat cells to grow AND multiply!

Worse still is that estrogen blocks your thyroid while progesterone stimulates it. I am sure you know that the thyroid secrets thyroxine which controls metabolism. So the effect of too much estrogen and not enough progesterone is like taking your foot off your metabolic gas pedal AND then putting on the brakes at the same time! …oh dear!

All is not bad …You can counteract this estrogen-induced metabolic slowdown but first, let us understand the 3 reasons for estrogen dominance…

==================================
Reason #1 for Estrogen Dominance…
==================================

The primary cause of estrogen dominance — is unfortunately out of our control- aging.

As you get older specifically over 30, you ovulate fewer and fewer months of the year, until ovulation disappears completely by, on average, age 51.

That is important, because whenever a woman ovulates, the hormone progesterone surges, counter-acting the estrogen surge that happens just before ovulation, so the fat-making and fat-burning stays in balance.

But as you age and ovulation starts to decrease, you will consequently get fewer thyroid-stimulating progesterone surges, leaving relatively more thyroid-blocking estrogen doing its fat building dirty work!

==================================
Reason #2 for Estrogen Dominance…
==================================

The second cause of estrogen dominance is the abundance of chemicals [80,000 and counting] released into the environment over the past few decades — from pesticides, plastics, food additives, and chemical-filled personal and household products.

Once some of these chemicals infiltrate your body ….and they do I can assure you then they can mimic the effects of thyroid-blocking estrogen and wreak havoc on your fat-burning ability.

What I am writing here is is NOT some scare tactic — it is a biological fact and scientists have documented that some male fish found in our lakes and rivers are actually CHANGING into females from all the excess fake estrogen they are absorbing!!!…Now that is scary!

==================================
Reason #3 for Estrogen Dominance…
==================================

The next major cause of estrogen dominance and fat gain after 40 is something every woman today is familiar with — excess stress.

When you are stressed, your body secretes powerful and essential hormone, cortisol, to help you deal with the stressful situation.

But if you are stressed continuously then your body produces cortisol non-stop and that is not good. To get enough biological material to produce that cortisol, Your body must steal it from progesterone!  ….and once again down go your progesterone levels.

Since the downside to lower progesterone is lower thyroid function, this takes the accelerator off your metabolism, once again fat starts to accumulate….We can’t win or can we?

==================================
We can Kick-Start our Metabolic Engine with This…
==================================

Yes there is good news: To get rid of that annoying padding piled onto your belly, hips, thighs and butt, there are 2 simple things we can do right now to counteract this estrogen dominance:

First, make as much of what you eat as clean and organic as possible. This will minimize your exposure to those fat-loss-blocking fake estrogens found in all the chemicals conventional food is treated with.

Second, remove as much stress as possible from your life…easier said than done I know but try hard to draw firm boundaries and make time for yourself to relax and unwind from your schedule. This in turn will keep your cortisol down and, therefore, your thyroid-stimulating progesterone up.

==================================
A Faster Way to Get Immediate Results…
==================================

there is no doubt that these two methods are effective but they can however take a long time to work given how estrogen dominant many women are.

Fortunately for us scientists have discovered a number of powerful — yet completely safe — herbs and other natural ingredients that can counteract these thyroid-suppressing effects of estrogen dominance.

What is even more, hundreds of scientific studies show that these natural metabolism-enhancing substances can actually bypass any hormone issues altogether, stimulating your cells to burn fat directly….Now that sounds good!

Dietary Tactics to Get rid of Bacterial Vaginosis

Changing ones diet can have dramatic results for those women who suffer from bacterial vaginosis, especially those unfortunate enough to experience reoccurring cases of the condition. Studies carried out have shown that there is in fact a strong link between the amount of dietary fat intake and the likelihood that a woman will get bacterial vaginosis. It has also been proved than the severity and frequency a woman suffers from the condition is also related to the fat intake in her diet.

Research has shown that saturated fats can reduce the immune response in the vagina and change the vaginal acidity so it favours the bad bacteria instead of the good, which is required to protect from certain infections. Such saturated fats can be found in foods like butter, full fat milk, red meat, cheese and pastries. So by cutting down on these food types can help the treatment of BV. These fatty foods can be replaced with monounsaturated fats, found in olive oil, canola and tea seed oil, as they are known to have a small effect on causing bacterial vaginosis. In addition, polyunsaturated fats, found in fish oils, sunflower seeds and bananas, have proved to have no effect whatsoever on producing the imbalance in vaginal bacteria.

Other dietary tactics that can be used to help ward off bacterial vaginosis include increasing the intake of vitamin E. Vitamin E is known for its antioxidising properties that fortify the immune system. Other vitamins than can help prevent infection are vitamins A and C along with iron and zinc. Vitamin E can be found in foods such as almonds, sunflower seeds, kiwi and in greens such as spinach and broccoli.

How can Bacterial Vaginosis be treated

There is perhaps nothing more embarrassing for a woman than to have problems in her lower half ie the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis is a relatively common condition that manifests itself in the form of a smelly discharge. In general the condition is experienced among the younger and middle aged females other older women can also experience a case of BV at some stage in their life.

In brief, bacterial vaginosis is bacterial infection caused by certain unfriendly bacteria which provoke an imbalance in the vagina. The normal friendly bacteria is basically outnumbered by the more harmful bacteria and therefore causes symptoms such as soreness, itchiness, and grey looking discharge with the dreaded fish smelling odour.

Treating bacterial vaginosis can be relatively easy but it is recommended that any noticeable changes a woman experiences in her vaginal area be checked out from the offset. This can not only rule out more serious infections and conditions but also prevent ongoing suffering, embarrassment and worry.

The first step towards treating bacterial vaginosis is to pay a visit to a GP. From here either a swob will be taken or if the described symptoms match those of BV then a course of antibiotics or gel will be prescribed. Relief from the condition will be pretty much quick to come about and the vaginal environment should return to its more neutral balance within a couple of days.

Of course, it is also quite common for women to experience a reoccurrence of symptoms within a six month period. Continued use of various scented products will affect the bacterial balance of the vagina as will sexual habits such as changing partners frequently. In some cases where bacterial vaginosis reoccurs it is recommended that women are referred to a gynaecologist. This way, essential tests can be carried out to find the underlying cause to this condition.

How Do I Make My Kitchen Gluten-free?

This is an excellent question. It shows that you are aware of cross-contamination and how gluten ingredients may accidentally end up in your gluten-free food. Food storage and preparation is one of the key components in ensuring that the food you consume has no gluten in it.

Since most food preparation is done in the kitchen, making it gluten-free is essential. If you live alone, you will be able to keep it gluten-free quite easily. If there are other family members in the same household, you will need to explain to them the importance of keeping the kitchen gluten-free.

There will be rules to abide by and any errors that may occur will affect the gluten intolerant person’s health. Since a family’s health is at stake, most family members will walk on eggshells when it comes to complying. Even then, mistakes may happen. So, you will need to be watchful and alert.

The first two things you will need to do are elimination and segregation. You will eliminate any gluten containing products in your kitchen. Give away your flours, baking supplies, etc. Any flours and baking ingredients you use should be gluten-free. If you are living alone, you can eliminate every single gluten containing product in your entire house.

If you have family members, you will need to segregate your food from theirs. You will need separate containers to keep foods such as butter, jams, etc. It would be an excellent idea to use different utensils and store them in a separate place too.

All this might seem like a hassle and it is. Yet, it’s the only way to ensure that gluten doesn’t accidentally get into your diet.

Get a toaster just for gluten-free bread. This is not an area to compromise regardless of your budget constraints. Grills, toasters, etc. that are used to prepare gluten containing foods will always have remnants left behind. Since you can’t wash a toaster thoroughly, there is absolutely no way to toast gluten-free bread and keep it in pristine gluten-free condition if other family members are using the same toaster to toast their normal bread

The crumbs from the normal bread will definitely end up on your gluten-free bread. If you eat it, you might as well be eating normal bread because the cross-contamination will be negating any attempts at living a gluten-free lifestyle.

Get different pots, pans, chopping boards, bread boards, etc. for your food preparation. You may think that you can use the same pots and pans as long as you wash them thoroughly. What many people don’t realize is that over time, there are scratches and little dents in the pots and pans. No matter how well you wash them; there will be some residue in these miniscule cracks. There will be gluten containing residue which will end up in your gluten-free food if you’re using the same pots and pans to whip up your meals. The same applies to cutting boards, bread boards, etc.

Initially, it may all seem troublesome and even a little expensive since you will have to have two sets of utensils, toasters, etc. However, once all is settled and you have your own items, you’ll not have any other issues as far as food preparation or cross-contamination goes. Put in the initial effort and expense. Over time, you will reap dividends many times over.

The Types Of Sugar Diabetes Type I And Type II

Sugar diabetes occurs when blood sugar levels rise because of a lack of insulin within the body to break down glucose, or sugar. The lack of insulin means that sugar cannot be broken down within the body.

The two types of sugar diabetes, Type I and Type II, differ in several areas. Type I diabetes usually begins during childhood. This type of diabetes occurs when the pancreas is incapable of producing insulin. Patients with this type of diabetes must rely on insulin injections throughout life.

Research demonstrates that Caucasians develop this type of diabetes more than other racial groups. Also, cold weather, viruses, and diet during infancy may trigger an inherited predisposition to develop into Type I diabetes. Infants with similar risks but are breastfeed for at least six months and who begin eating solid food at a later age are less likely to develop Type I diabetes. This type of diabetes requires regular monitoring and management with medication, but when controlled, patients may lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

Type II diabetes occurs later in life. This type of diabetes becomes an issue when the pancreas can not produce enough insulin for the body, and the body’s blood sugar level begins to stay higher than it should. Symptoms that indicate Type II diabetes may be an issue include unusually frequent thirst, frequent urination, loss of weight, blurred eyesight, irritable mood, hunger increases, hands and feet becoming tingling or numb, frequent infections, wounds that will not heal, and increased unexplained fatigue. Hereditary factors influence the development of Type II diabetes, but nutritional choices and sedentary lifestyles also affect the development of Type II diabetes.

A management plan for Type II diabetes will include close monitoring of blood sugar levels, healthier eating habits, and regular exercise. Often, these changes regulate blood sugar levels effectively. When diet and exercise modifications do not control blood sugar levels, patients must take medication, either insulin with a syringe or pill medication that regulates the breakdown of glucose. This type of diabetes must be controlled to prevent serious health problems.

Some research indicates that some obese patients may eliminate diabetic issues with a significant loss of weight and increased exercise.

Both types of diabetes involve a genetic and environmental component. With effective control, both types of diabetes may be managed and a healthy life continued. Diabetics need to make good food choices and exercise regularly.

They should also have a blood sugar meter and a supply of testing strips and lancets to monitor their blood sugar levels. Diabetics who need medication or insulin should make sure to properly store and take their medication according to guidelines from their physicians. Should a patient’s illness be left uncontrolled, it can lead to heart attacks; stroke; kidney failure; blindness; and blood vessel disease, leading to impotence in men, amputation, or nerve damage.

All of these catastrophic health issues can be prevented when patients maintain conscientious lifestyle choices, oversight of blood sugar levels, and medication when needed.

The Importance Of Blood Sugar And Sugar Alcohol

Why is blood sugar so important for your body? Energy. That’s right. Blood sugar provides the body with energy that your body needs to function properly. Glucose (comes from sugar) helps fuel and replenish the body so that it processes like it should. Besides giving your body energy and stabilizing it, you may ask, “Why is blood sugar really important?” Here’s why: High or low levels of blood sugar can actually be hazardous to your health. Unusual amounts of blood sugar can lead to sweating, dizziness, confusion, shaking, seizures, a fast heart rate, and other complications.

A couple of well-known blood sugar disorders are Diabetes and hypoglycemia.

Blood sugar – levels can depend on

(1) overeating
(2) unhealthy eating
(3) lack of exercise
(4) stress
(5) medication and
(6) by disease or infection.
Now you’re probably thinking, “What’s the best way to combat all that?” A healthy diet and exercise will help you maintain normal blood sugar levels. Choosing the right foods to eat and exercising regularly will balance your blood sugar levels so they don’t skyrocket on you. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all the foods you’ve loved your whole life. There are natural and safe substitutes that will allow you to keep the “sweet” in your diet.

Xylitol, a common sugar alcohol, is a naturally occurring substance that looks and tastes like sugar, but is healthier for you. Sugar alcohols, also known as polyols, are commonly used as sweeteners and bulking agents. Table sugar and other carbohydrates can elevate blood sugar to unhealthy levels or cause reactions to the insulin that is subsequently produced. The great thing about xylitol is that it’s absorbed into the bloodstream much slower than table sugar and other carbohydrates and that means it carries 40% less calories.

Sugar alcohol comes in a variety of forms (e.g., xylitol, mannitol, sorbitol, and others). These can be found in an assortment of foods such as soft drinks, candy, chewing gum, cookies, and many other “sugar-free products.”

Xylitol is crystalline in form and a normal substance found in everyday metabolism. The FDA has given xylitol its safest rating as a food additive which means it’s perfectly healthy and safe for human consumption. It’s even safe to consume for those with diabetes and hypoglycemia.

Blood sugar and sugar alcohol are closely related to stabilizing, maintaining, and helping the body process and function properly. If not closely watched, blood sugar levels in the body can cause serious health issues. Sugar alcohols can help reduce calories and keep blood sugar levels in areas that they need to be so that you can live a healthier and more energetic life.

Some ways you can manage and prevent arthritis pain and inflammation.

If you suffer from arthritis, pain and inflammation becomes a part of your life. Even those who have dealt with arthritis for years, still suffer. With arthritis, the pain is more than physical. It’s emotional too.

When seeking relief, you want more than temporary relief. The best approach is to stop pain before it starts. How? Fortunately, you have many options. Let’s go over some of them now:

– Exercise

Exercise is vital to create a strong and healthy body. Not only that, it can relieve and prevent the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. Those suffering from severe pain, often left their symptoms go untreated. Their joints are so stiff that it literally hurts to move. If you have reached this point, it will take time. If not, start the process now. Exercise results in joint movement, lessening the stiffness and the pain overtime. It also builds muscle strength. This strength provides the joints with protection, lessening the pressure and pain.

– Protect joints

Those who suffer from severe forms of arthritis suffer every minute of the day. They wake up and feel pain. In fact, a full night’s sleep may be near impossible. Prevent joint pain by wisely using your joints and muscles. For instance, if you suffer from arthritis in your elbows or hips? Limit the strenuous activity that requires these joints. Instead of lifting heavy boxes with your arms, lift with the entire body. Instead of turning only the upper part of the body at the hips, reposition the entire body to get a good look.

– Sleep

As I mentioned, sleep can be difficult for those suffering from severe pain. A good night’s sleep is vital to preventing pain. The energy the body receives from sleep can ward off pain or lessen its severity. If your nights are restless, sleep whenever possible. This may involve afternoon naps, but the payoff is worth it. A well-rested and well-energized body is able to ward off pain and manage it better.

– Medication in moderation

Unfortunately, those who suffer from pain and inflammation, whether it’s arthritis related or not, rely on pain relievers. Some reach the point where they take medication before pain even sets in. They think it will start eventually, so why wait. Don’t take this approach, unless advised by a medical professional. The body grows dependent on the medication we ingest. It is easy to become mentally addicted to over-the-counter pain medication. To prevent pain, exercise, eat healthy, and get a good night sleep. Wait until the pain arrives before turning to over-the-counter medication.

– Reduce stress

There is no doubt that arthritis sufferer’s deal with pain. However, our bodies play a huge role in the impact it has on our lives. A positive outlook on life will help. The less you focus on your pain, the less you will feel. Relaxation is key too. Does a warm bath relax your body and sooth your joint pain? If so, fill up the bathtub, add scented bubbles, and turn on your favorite music.

– Get a massage

Most patients are surprised to hear their physicians recommend massages. Most assume they will be loaded with pain relievers and sent homes. Yes, over-the-counter relievers do assist with pain, but so does a good old massage. It relaxes the body and mind. Massages also warm the body and promote movement. In some cases, regular massages can help to prevent pain.

As you can see, there are many ways to avoid and manage the pain associated with arthritis. In fact, these are just a few of your options. No matter what type of arthritis you suffer from or how severe the symptoms, know you are not alone and that relief is available.
