What makes some people more successful in life than others ?

What makes people happy?

Are success and happiness linked ?

These are questions which has been asked for hundreds of years and many answers have been discovered and rediscovered over this time. Many of the main answers relate to how you think about yourself and the world around you and simply by changing how you think will start to have a dramatic effect on your life.

One of the first principles which you must accept is that you must take full responsibility for the events in your life. It is no use blaming other people, the government, your boss etc. for the things that are wrong in your life. You have total control over how you think and act and it is up to you to decide to be happy and successful. Happiness comes entirely from a state of mind. If you decide to be happy you will be. The more you think about happiness and success the more it will will happen. Once you accept this first point you can take many positive steps towards success.

Probably the most important of these can be summarized in the following three steps:

Assess your main target in life

Choose a definite aim in life, one which you know is realistic for your talents and abilities, one which you know is something you really want to do and enjoy doing. Make up your mind that you will push as hard as possible towards that aim. To ensure success you must have a burning desire for this purpose and want to take the appropriate action to achieve this purpose. Write this aim down.

“Know what you want, when you want it, why you want it, and how you intend to get it.”

Set goals which are consistent with this target.

Goal setting is one of the most powerful ways to focus and achieve success. However goals must be in accordance with your main aim in life. If you strive for and achieve a goal which is not in line with your target, it will not help you to be happy even if you are generally successful. Goals can be of different length, short term, medium term or long term. Ideally have a mixture of all three. You should write your goals down, even this act alone will make it much more definite and much more likely to achieve. Read and review your goals often. Make your goals achievable and have at least some which you can see the path to achieving even if it’s not always clear how you will reach the longer term goals.

Take continuous action towards your goals.

Once your goals are written down aim to take definite actions towards these goals even if they are very small. It is essential to get into the habit of avoiding procrastination when you know there are tasks to be done. A great way to do this is to plan to only take a little action, sometimes as short as a few minutes at a time. Often this will get you going and you will devote more time to it than you originally planned, at other times you will realize that now is not such a good time, but you will have achieved a little bit towards your goal. Another great habit to adopt is to tackle the most difficult task first and get it out of the way. This usually makes all the rest of the task so much easier.

Following these easy three steps will have a very positive effect on your life and will dramatically improve your chances of success.

What is the differences between MS and fibromyalgia?

According to Livestrong.com, “Fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis are potentially debilitating disorders that lead to chronic pain. Fibromyalgia is characterized by muscle pain and stiffness, profound fatigue and difficulty sleeping. Multiple sclerosis can cause a wide range of symptoms, including vision problems, muscle weakness, painful muscle spasms and poor bladder control.

Both fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis tend to affect women more often than men. Neither disorder has a clear-cut cause. Despite these similarities, important distinctions separate the two conditions.”
“Estimates vary, but about 5 million people in the U.S. have fibromyalgia, say authors of a January 2008 article in “Arthritis and Rheumatism.” People with fibromyalgia experience widespread muscle pain and tenderness typically involving the neck, shoulders, hips and back. Severe muscle stiffness is often present in the morning and tends to improve over the day.

Many people with fibromyalgia report insomnia and intense fatigue. Headaches, depressed mood, anxiety and difficulty concentrating are also common. Researchers have not identified the cause of fibromyalgia, but immune system or hormonal abnormalities may be to blame.”
What about multiple sclerosis? “

Approximately 300,000 people in the U.S. have multiple sclerosis, according to a March 2012 review article in “Pharmacy and Therapeutics.” As with fibromyalgia, researchers are not entirely sure why people develop MS. Nevertheless, multiple sclerosis is classified as an autoimmune disorder, whereas fibromyalgia is not.

An overly active immune system is thought to trigger the body to attack brain and spinal cord tissue, leading to MS symptoms. People with MS frequently report trouble with blurry vision, difficulty walking and loss of bladder control. MS symptoms tend to fluctuate in intensity over time. In contrast to fibromyalgia, however, MS symptoms are not necessarily worse in the mornings.”
Even their treatment is different, “Although overlap exists between fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis symptoms, different medications are used to treat the two disorders. As of the time of publication, three medications have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration specifically for fibromyalgia: duloxetine (Cymbalta), pregabalin (Lyrica) and milnacipran (Savella). Though these medications address chronic pain, they have not been approved for the specific treatment of MS. A number of other drugs, called disease-modifying agents, have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to help prevent multiple sclerosis flare-ups. Disease-modifying drugs used with MS include glatiramer (Copaxone), mitoxantrone (Novantrone) and natalizumab (Tysabri).

Unlike medications for fibromyalgia, these agents target immune system activity thought to contribute to MS.”
One thing they share is that they tend to extensive evaluation processes, “An extensive physical exam can aid in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis.

Since fibromyalgia predominantly causes muscle symptoms, diagnosis is based, in part, on a detailed muscle exam. According to 2010 American College of Rheumatology guidelines, a fibromyalgia diagnosis is likely when a person has muscle tenderness at 7 or more specific anatomic sites. To be considered fibromyalgia, no other underlying disorder can explain symptoms, and symptoms must persist for at least 3 months. Multiple sclerosis, on the other hand, causes more neurological symptoms than fibromyalgia.

As a result, the physical exam focuses more on brain and nerve function. Evaluation of the brain with magnetic resonance imaging and a spinal tap is also helpful in diagnosing MS, according to widely used criteria published in February 2011 in “Annals of Neurology.” These tests do not play a role in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.”

Coffee, Longevity, and Thyroid Function

The health of your thyroid is one of the most important factors when it comes to overall health and longevity.

In a nut shell your thyroid controls your cells’ ability to produce energy. This means that when you become hypothyroid (Low levels  of thyroxin) your metabolism slows down and your ability to produce energy decreases. In simple English this study showed that those who drank coffee lived longer, it also shows that the more coffee they drank, the longer they lived…..is that good news or what?

  • Men’s Results: two to three cups of coffee per day decreased risk of death by 10% in men. And each addition cup provided an additional 6% decreased risk.
  • Women’s Results: two to three cups of coffee per day decreased risk of death by 13% in women. And each additional cup provided an additional 5% decreased risk.

Based on our understanding of human physiology and longevity, coffee reduces your risk of death by helping your cells produce energy, increasing your metabolism, and therefore improving thyroid function.

Now do not get too excited yet  as the researchers  in this study were not able to identify the exact mechanisms through which coffee reduces the risk of death and extends life.

Below, we’re going to explore recent results that now show just a few of these exact mechanisms through which coffee can provide amazing benefits for overcoming hypothyroidism, and many of its associated health problems.

1. Coffee Protects You From Thyroid Disease

When it comes to coffee and the health of your thyroid, it doesn’t get any more obvious than this. Coffee has been shown to have a direct effect on the health of your thyroid gland.

Research has shown that coffee drinkers have a significantly lower incidence of both benign and malignant thyroid disease, including thyroid cancer.

It is well known that various thyroid diseases including Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and thyroid cancer are common causes of hypothyroidism today. Using coffee properly to help prevent these diseases is a big step in the right direction.

Coffee Protects You From Cancer and Estrogen

Coffee doesn’t only protect you from thyroid cancer. It also protects against a number of other cancers, including breast cancer, which is especially a concern for menopausal women.

Unless you do the job that I do and lecture on medical conditions you are probably not aware that  there is a link between hypothyroidism and breast cancer. This is because of the role that estrogen plays in suppressing the thyroid gland, disrupting healthy metabolism, and promoting cancer metabolism and growth.

Coffee has been shown to help support your body’s ability to produce progesterone, the hormone that plays the important role of offsetting the negative effects of estrogen and is essential in signalling your thyroid gland to release healthy amounts of thyroid hormone when needed.

So, it should be no surprise that coffee not only helps to protect you from breast cancer but that it also helps to promote healthy function of the thyroid gland.
