colon cleansing, is this hype, or is it real, and does it work?

Hype (with apologies to those who think it works).

The colon is NOT a pipe that builds up material along the sides that needs reaming or cleansing. The body is QUITE capable of detoxifying itself. Colon cleansing, or colonics can become habit-forming; the user can become dependent, such that the bowel will not work effectively WITHOUT the enemas.

From the Mayo Clinic: While there is little scientific evidence to support or refute the benefits of colon cleansing, critics say it’s generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful. Although doctors prescribe colon cleansing as preparation for medical procedures such as colonoscopy, most don’t recommend it for detoxification. Their reasoning is simple: The digestive system and bowel naturally eliminate waste material and bacteria — your body doesn’t need enemas or special diets or pills to do this.

One concern with colon cleansing is that it can increase your risk of dehydration. A potentially more serious concern is that certain laxatives used in colon cleansing, such as those with sodium phosphate, can cause a rise in your electrolytes, which can be dangerous if you have kidney disease or heart disease.

f you choose to do colon cleansing, be sure to take these simple precautions:

    * Check with your conventional medical providers first, especially if you take any medications or have any health problems.
    * Make sure your colon-cleansing practitioner uses disposable equipment that hasn’t been previously used.
    * Get a list of specific herbal ingredients and amounts in any colon-cleansing products you use — some herbal supplements can cause health problems.
    * Beware of broad or inflated claims that colon cleansing will cure an illness or improve your health.
    * Stay well hydrated by drinking lots of fluids while undergoing colon cleansing to prevent dehydration.

If you are considering colon cleansing because of constipation, consider trying these steps first to relieve constipation:

    * Drink plenty of fluids, including water
    * Eat a diet rich in fiber
    * Get regular exercise

I’ve not had it done myself, but I have known people that have and apparently it’s amazing.

It’s a little uncomfortable, as you’d probably expect a hose up your bum to be :], but so worth it.

You lose about 1-2kg and feel super refreshed and cleansed afterwards. Apparently there’s so much gunk that gets stuck in your trunk (sorry, I had to say it like that :D) and the colonic just flushes it all out and really helps with digestion.

I’m not sure how it differs from an enema, but I’ve heard both are excellent.

I know you can get a coffee enema, but I’m not sure how that would go with eradicating toxins…

But I say go for it :]!

So I was on Oprah a few years back (dr. oz show). It was about weight loss ‘fads’. I was the dork on national tv telling Oprah about my experience getting a colonic.
Here’s the somewhat short version of my experience.
It’s hype. I went in thinking I was going to lose all this magical weight. I thought that because of things I read and what I was told over the phone while making my appointment., that I could expect to lose 10 -15 pounds that day.
    No.
First, it does kinda hurt. The tube they insert in your happy place does not feel great. That’s the easy part. They first send water INTO you to flush everything out. While that water goes into you, it feels like cramps from hell. And they do it a few times.
After getting flushed out a few times and heading to the bathroom to make alien sounds from beyond your anus, they try to explain that you need to come back a few times a week to get the whole effect.
3 pounds and $150 later, I went and got a Big Mac.
    The end. 🙂

Colon cleansing with Colonix colon cleanse http://www.drnatura.com is not hype.

How can a product that literally gave me a new lease on life be hype http://www.healthbanquet.com/colon-cleanse.html

If my husband had not found the Colonix, I shudder to think about the quality of life I would be experiencing. For before I did this colon cleanse, my life consisted of endless doctor appointment, diagnostic tests, purchasing thousands of dollars of supplements, etc. – just trying to regain my health again.

After I did the colon cleanse and flushed out the old toxic impurities, my body actually started to heal. And day by day I regained my health and stamina.

Yes a good colon cleanse product really does work. Do not try to save a few bucks and buy a cheaper product. Most likely, you will not get as good of results. In fact, there are many poor colon cleanse products on the market that I would never touch.

    So do your research carefully,

    Good luck,

    Eryn
