Flower essences or Rescue Remedy? Which natural method should i use to prevent and relieve stress?

I take care of my family because they have health problems. I feel like i have a lot of stress in my life.

Should i do something homeopathic? Use flower essences? Rescue Remedy?

Any suggestions?

Rescue Remedy IS a flower essence…or, more specificallly, a blend of 5 flower essences.

This all depends entirely on your body chemistry. See a licensed Naturopathic Doctor to get checked out.

However, flower essences work very well, especially for acute stress. I keep RR with me when I fly, and it works like a dream.

There are honestly a whole mess of things I could suggest, but for long term and acute stress, I tend to favor L-Theanine, since it is totally non-toxic, relatively inexpensive and easy to find. Magnesium and B-Vitamins are also a must if you are under long term stress, since these are nutrients that are being depleted on a daily basis.

If you are finding that your stress is leading to agitation or moodiness, Rhodiola Rosea works well, and 5-HTP and GABA can be wonderful compliments to virtually everything I just mentioned.

Again though, get yourself checked. Take a look at your stress hormones and how your immune system is functioning in light of the stress you are under. That way, you can tailor your nutritional support to your specific needs.

ETA: I need to add, though, that you obviously need to take other measures, outside of supplements, to care for yourself in times of higher than normal stress (and caregiving is VERY stressful!). Limit or eliminate sugar and caffeine, do what you can to get as much sleep as possible, and make sure you are doing things JUST for you. Healthy, organic and nourishing food and teas, massage, reflexology, reiki, meditation, or even just taking a long bath with a book.

It will do wonders. I hope things get better for you.

I don’t understand why it works.

Logic tells me it shouldn’t do anything.

I am a skeptic of this sort of thing but my ex-husband swears by it.

    But

Rescue Remedy works like a charm for my ex-husband, myself and my 21 year old daughter.

some of the flower essences as well as rescue remedy can take the edge off of stress, but their action is rather subtle.

As for homeopathic remedies which are usually either given in liquid drops or sublingual tablets, should be prescribed by a professional homeopath because there is not one general remedy for stress, the exact remedy for you would depend on your combination of other symptoms with your stress.

If you are open to other holistic treatments, Herbal remedies for stress can include: valerian, kava kava, chamomile. Meditation, exercise, Reiki and massage can be very effective in treating stress as can Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

  • Both are essentially the same: 1% ‘flower extract’ and 99% brandy.

It’s pretty clear that this mixture could never have any kind of an effect on someone’s mental state, especially when it’s watered down even further as recommended.

Any effect is purely the Placebo Effect. If you’re susceptible to a bit of auto-suggestion, go ahead and try it. Just understand that it’s a psychological state of mind you’re adopting, the ‘remedy’ isn’t a remedy at all and if you think it works, then you didn’t need it in the first place.

You sound like you have a lot on your plate! When I was nursing my dad (he had cancer) I took a supplement called Anxiety & Stress Essentials. its a multi-herbal formula that helped me feel relaxed, I also found that my emotions did not get in the way either. I bought it online.
