If you can’t find buttermilk where you live an easy substitution would be soured milk. You make it by taking 1 cup of milk and adding 1 Tablespoon of vinegar to it. Then let it set for about 5 minutes before using it.
buttermilk is the milk from the churned butter.
If u melt butter in a microwave and then rest it in the fridge till it hardens again, it have seperated into butter fat and butter milk.
However, you can buy it in tesco’s, its kinda like a sour milk but very good for baking
What kind of cake are you trying to make that requires buttermilk? I may be able to help you alter the recipe if you can’t find buttermilk. I need more details. Let us know.
what???
HA HA you make me laugh
your grocer dairy shelf (Should) have butter milk…
( that means you never look past exactly what you shop for did you ever see chocolate milk or egg nog.)
But just in case ,,,over with the cake mixes,, there is a dry buttermilk package.
ask the store staff,, they do know most all what is stocked…
Buttermilk is the liquid left after producing butter from cream during the churning process…
Buttermilk can be purchased from most supermarkets (milk section lol), but is mainly cultured buttermilk not natural, but will give the same results in baking…
I have used it quite often when making muffins which call for it in many recipes…
This link is for buttermilk substitutes (in case you haven’t any available but do have the products listed)…
I’ve copy and pasted instead:
For each 1 cup buttermilk called for in a recipe, use 1 cup plain yogurt or sour cream;
OR
1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar plus enough milk to make 1 cup;
OR
1 cup milk plus 1 3/4 tablespoons cream of tartar;
hiya.
buttermilk is widely available in most supermarkets. IF you cannot get it however, you can usually subsitute the quantity of buttermilk with a mix of semi-skimmed milk & natural yogurt in the qty of 2/3s e.g. if your recipe calls for 200ml buttermilk, subsitute with 75ml or 75g of yogurt & 125ml semi-skimmed milk.
Hope this works – send on the recipe if you’re still stuck & i’ll see if i can help.
butter milk is the remains when butter is churned,it is lower in fat then sweet milk,it is a sour residual liquid, if you can’t find a place to get your butter milk you can add a small amount of white vinegar to regular milk and it will be almost the same in flavor.
