help i added a tin of pineapple plus juice to my shop bought jar of sweet and sour sauce?

now its too sweet how can i put some sour in to it or if thats not possible how do i make it savoury? many thanks

    The sweet and sour taste is a carefully balanced mix of sugar and vinegar. If you think that the shop-bought sauce is deficient in the pineapple department. Why don’t you make your own. Then you will be able to adjust the taste to suit your own palate. I have tried most commercial sweet and sour sauces, and have found this recipe to work well.


    2 onions, chopped
    2 green peppers, peeled and sliced, or use sliced mushrooms
    1 can pineapple rings, 840 gms.
    5 tablespoons malt vinegar
    120 gms. Demerara sugar, dissolved in a little hot water
    4 teaspoons dark Soy Sauce
    Salt and black pepper to taste

    Place the chopped onions and peppers (or mushrooms) in a frying pan and fry at a medium heat for 2 minutes.
    Transfer the fried onions and peppers (or mushrooms) to a slow cooker pot.
    Drain the juice from the can of pineapples into a jug, make up to 1 pint (imperial) or 20 fl.ozs (US) and add to the pot.
    Add the Demerara sugar, malt vinegar and the soy sauce to the pot.
    Place the lid on the pot, set the slow cooker to LOW heat and allow to cook for 5 hours.
    Cut the pineapple rings into segments and add to the pot.
    Allow to cook for 1 hour more.
    Note. If you leave the pineapples in for longer they will get too hot to eat.

    Serve with noodles.

  • Add a little vinegar salt and pepper to it. Do it a tiny bit at a time.
