Reduce or eliminate foods high in animal fat such as meat, eggs, and dairy products and try a vegetarian diet which consists of at least six servings of whole grain foods, four servings of green leafy vegetables, two to three servings of fruit, two to four servings of legumes, and one serving of non-fat dairy products daily.

Do regular exercise such as fast walking, jogging, swimming, bicycling and walking up stairs. A good option is aerobic exercise (20-30 minutes) at least three times a week.

Some home remedies also help to reduce cholesterol such as:

Eat one clove of fresh garlic every morning.

    Eat one apple daily.

Drink a lemon or pomelo juice several times a day

I was told by my doctor to take 1000 mg twice a day of Fish Oil capsules. Also Niacin 1 tablet at night. I was also told that regular exercise brings down cholesterol and drinking a small glass of red wine before bed can also bring down cholesterol. Eating oatmeal for breakfast is another one. Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck to you.
