Substitution: BUTTERMILK OR SOUR MILK 1 cup = 1 cup plain yogurt OR 1 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice plus enough milk to equal 1 cup (let stand 5 minutes) OR 1 3/4 tsp cream of tartar plus 1 cup milk

I think you can add a tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of sweet milk and that will suffice for buttermilk in a recipe.

I hope it turns out wonderful!

Buttermilk is the most disgusting substance in the universe. It does not belong in soda bread or anywhere else.

1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar and enough regular milk to make 1 cup of butter milk. Stir and wait about 5 – 10 minutes and it will be thick and ready..

just use plain yoghurt, its more or less the same thing,,you can also use yoghurt for scones and biscuits.

1 cup of regular milk. Remove one tablespoon of the milk and add one tablespoon vinegar. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes.

I use 1tbsp and 1/2 tbsp of lemon juice and a cup of sweet milk. I let it sit for five minutes. Vinegar will work as well but sometimes it might leave a flavor. If you let it sit for five minutes it thickens it.

What a surprise. I remember the days you could get buttermilk. It is getting rather difficult to get anything proper now-days. Perhaps you can try full fat yogurt

substitue the same measurment of buttermilk for natural yogurt, do not use just plain yogurt as it doesnt have the right acidity for the recipe.
