Your thyroid is a gland just under your adams apple in your throat that secretes hormones that affect quite a few body processes. If you have an underactive thyroid (known as hypothyroidism) you my experience drowsiness and weight gain.

If you do have a thyroid condition, it is not always incurable. They will provide you with synthetic hormone pills to either supplement an underactive thyroid or counteract an overactive one. Some people with hypo- or hyper- thyroidism will end up being able to stop taking the pills, because the thyroid may correct itself. Otherwise, you will take the pills for the rest of your life.

Really not a big deal, if you do have a thyroid condition you’ll feel tons better after you start taking your pills!

the pain you will receive tomorrow should be the most worrying on your clock, not your thyroid

The thyroid is a small gland on the front of your neck. It produces hormones that are controlling your metabolism. If these hormone levels are not right, your metabolism can be either too slow (gaining weight) or too fast (loosing weight). The blood test will show your hormone levels. If they are not at the proper levels, it can be corrected with medication or other medical means. You will be fine.
    Best of luck!
